Game Corner - TitanFall - Review - Guest Blogger

There's not much to say about this game that hasn't already been said, good or bad. This game, for starters, is my all time favorite shooter. I'ts fresh take on the re-used Call Of Duty and Battlefield concepts is what makes it stand out from all the others in a way. The gameplay style is a breath of fresh air, with fast paced gameplay as well as unique concepts of it's own. It's lack of content is not a good sight, but it makes up for it with the overall experience you have while playing.
I think one of the best parts is the overall customization possibilities, which is added to drastically by the titans. Everything is balanced by a basic system of strengths and weaknesses such as range, fire speed, aim speed and so on. All of the weapon, skill, and titan combinations can be countered by something else, which helps to lessen the problem of campers which is prominent in most other shooters. What also helps bring this problem down is the map setups, which give people a lot of vantage points, all while keeping them from being too inaccessible to other players.
The only problem with this game that I hope will be fixed in the future is the matchmaking, which sometimes matches you in a team with very low experienced players, or puts the other team in the same situation, which can make the game very frustrating to the newer and older players alike. The players are matched at random, with no regard to skill level. Other than this problem, the game is completely worth buying for any fan of shooters, or people who just want something fresh. It's incredibly addicting, fast paced, and overall a great buy.

Game Corner - ORION: Dino Horde - Review and Walkthrough

Hello blog readers. A fairly recent game has come around to my game library and I think it's worth a mention here on AllStuffNerdy. The game is ORION: Dino Horde.

The game is developed by Spiral and is built on the Unreal Game Engine. Now before we proceed, we need to discuss game engines. Most big-name games (with the exception of Call of Duty), are built completely by scratch in code. However, when most games are starting out, they like to start with game engines. These "code frameworks" allow the game designer to build a decent game without worrying about getting swarmed with millions of lines of code. Now game engines do come with a major drawback. They tend to perform poorly on older hardware. The reason is game engines have lots of code libraries which can be used by the game designer to design their game, which takes up a lot of memory. This is why we are giving ORION a bit of a handicap in this review. And also because it's a relatively new(er) game.

Now on with the review. The game has no story in it. period. The game offers both solo and online multiplayer. You can set the multiplayer server to be Steam friends only, or public for the world to join. At the moment, multiplayer servers are limited to 5 active players (the rest are given the spectator role). Upon entering, you will be given the option of choosing between 3 different classes. There's the assault class, the support class, and the recon class. All of them have access to different powerups and weapons (more on that later). Once you choose your class, you will spawn either inside a building or just outside a building depending on the map. For the Survival and Conquest modes, you cannot do anything until you activate a generator located about 500-1000 ft away from your spawn. All buildings will be disabled until one player goes to activate it. The player who activates it will receive 100 credits. Once the generator is activated, players will have 60 seconds to buy new weapons and powerups. After the 60 seconds have expired, a horde of dinosaurs will appear and attempt to attack the generator to bring it offline. If the generator is offline for more that 5 minutes, all players lose the round. Players will have to use their weapons and powerups to defend the generator. If a player loses their shield and their health, they will enter a state where they move very slowly and can only use their pistol type weapon to fight. This is similar to when your player is "bleeding out" in Call of Duty. To be restored back to normal, you must either kill a certain number of dinosaurs (which is determined by the difficulty setting), cause a certain amount of damage to a larger dinosaur, or being revived by another player. Any player can revive a fallen teammate by holding a button for a few seconds. This does, however, make both players vulnerable to attacks from nearby dinosaurs. Players of the Support class can instantly revive players using their support powerup.

Overall, this is a really fun game. The concept is really good and the game has potential. As one reviewer on Steam put it: "You can fight a T-Rex in a mech. That's all you need to know." However, I do have a few complaints. First off, the music is off. It sounds like it belongs in a calmer game like Zelda, not an action packed game like this. My other complaint is that it doesn't run nicely with older hardware. I have a 6 year old gaming PC that has been upgraded with a more modern graphics card (AMD Radeon 7750), and this game lags a lot. It just might be my single core computer not being able to handle it, but most other games run just fine (HAWKEN, JC2, NFS: Hot Pursuit...). I think this is the first game I have ever played where I had to turn down all the settings down to minimum to get decent performance. But as I said before, we are giving this game a handicap since it does rely on a pre-built game engine.

The Conclusion:
******* 7 stars out of 5.
The game has a nice concept with a lot of replayability. Granted it can lag sometimes and it has room for improvement in its soundtrack, but it's easy to look past that once you start playing it. You can get it for yourself through the Steam client (steampowered.com).

Game Corner - ORION: Dino Horde - Overview

This post is a game review on the game Orion: Dino Horde.

As far as this game goes, it is a great game. I would give it a 3.5 review. It has a lag you wouldn't believe, but you would have to lower all of the graphics settings so it runs perfect. This game supports keyboard and mouse, and the X-Box 360 Gamepad. I recommend playing online multiplayer because it gets boring on solo.

Game Corner - Surgeon Simulator 2013 - Review/Gameplay tips

This advertising slot is open! To have a paragraph here featuring your company (doesn't have to be tech related), go to http://www.fiverr.com/armmaster17/mention-your-company-in-a-blog-post.

What's a game that combines hours of fun with gruesome depictions of medical operations? Surgeon Simulator 2013. Originally created as part of a programming contest, the game was then expanded into a full-featured game to be released on Valve's Steam game distribution store. In the game you play as Nigel, a supposed surgeon tasked with undertaking many difficult and strange operations. To begin you start with a basic heart transplant. The game is controlled with the keyboard and mouse. The mouse moves Nigel's hand, while the AWER and Space keys control his individual fingers. If you want to use two hands in the game, you are going to need to pick up a Razer Hydra. So back to the game, you use the difficult and awkward controls to move his hand around to pick up various tools. In the upper right-hand corner you can watch the blood level of the patient. You lose when the patient loses all of their blood. The patient loses blood when certain tools come in contact with the flesh of the patient. The game never mentions it until later (I had to look online to find it), but there are a set of syringes in the game that are used to control the blood flow of the patient. One of the syringes stops blood flow. However, if you accidentally stab yourself with that syringe, your vision becomes warped and it becomes difficult to perform the other operation. Hitting yourself with the other syringe will undo the effect. But beware not to mix up the syringes as the second one can make the bleeding worse. When run when the Steam service is in online mode, various achievements can be obtained by doing several difficult or gruesome tasks. As you move up in levels, the operations become more difficult and you change locations. Different types of surgeries include heart transplant, kidney transplant, and brain transplant. Locations include surgery room, ambulance, and space (which tends to be the most difficult location).

Bottom line:
Besides being quite frusturating and having limited replay value, it is definately full of easter eggs and random physics that can create hours of fun.

My rating: ***** 5 stars out of 5

If you want to get it yourself, you can grab it from the Steam client (steampowered.com) for $9.99. But if you keep an eye on it you may catch it on sale!

Hey blog readers! we have a new Facebook page! Check it out at http://on.fb.me/U9s2Ld

Hello blog readers! Today for game corner I am reviewing super hexagon. It's a game of precision, focus, and anger management. When you play the first level, you play as a triangle that rotates around a hexagon. Your goal is to avoid touching the incoming lines that are closing in on you. Although it is a simple concept, actually playing it is harder than it seems. As you continue playing, the hexagon you rotate around may morph into other shapes, changing the size of the incoming lines. As you move up in levels, the lines move faster and faster. And to add to the madness, there is a loud pounding dubstep-ish soundtrack. If you want to buy it, have fun attempting to beat the world record (It's like 13 minutes).
What I love about it:
-pounding soundtrack
-highly addictive
-easy gameplay concept
What I hate about it:
-highly addictive

Final Rating: ********** 10 stars out of 5

If you want to check it out, you can get it for $2.99 from steam at steampowered.com.

Game Corner-Just Cause 2-Review

Hey blog readers! we have a new Facebook page! Check it out at http://on.fb.me/U9s2Ld

This advertising slot is open! To have a paragraph here featuring your company (doesn't have to be tech related), go to http://www.fiverr.com/armmaster17/mention-your-company-in-a-blog-post.

As a first post, I thought I would review Just Cause 2. Now what is JC2? Take Grand Theft Auto V, subtract all the M-rated content, add in some James Bond attack moves, then add some Call of Duty armor and weapons. Then finally add some Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Then you have Just Cause 2. Just Cause 2 is mainly a free roam game with a storyline to help you earn more money to get new vehicles and guns. (If you want to read a storyline and gameplay review, scroll down).
What I love about it:
-Free roam
-Massive map
-lots of vehicles
-lots of guns
-Nav icons for hidden items (ammo, weapon parts, vehicle parts)
-Black market traders come to you, even in combat, to sell you vehicles and weapons.
-Very deep storyline
-Grappling hook (there are so many fun things you can do with this)
-You can die and respawn immediately with no penalty
-Multiplayer support (buggy, but still awesome)
-100% support for Xbox controllers.
-it plays nice with slower hardware.
-Beautiful graphics (if your PC can handle it).
-Doesn't crash at all.
What I hate about it:
-You always seem to run out of ammo at the wrong time. (Ammo usually comes in increments of 35 or so, and you can blow through 100 rounds in less than 30 seconds).
-Lots of villages look the same.
-The police are a little bit overpowered (no matter where you run, someone will spot you and reinitiate the pursuit)
-controls are messed up (Need for Speed fans will find themselves parachuting out of their car at every turn instead of drifting).
-When you die, you respawn at the last mission you completed.

My conclusion:
If you like video games of any kind, there's something in Just Cause 2 for you. I personally love this game and would recommend it to anyone. Get it for yourself through the Steam Client (steampowered.com).

----Warning: spoiler alert----
If you don't want the first two missions spoiled for you, stop reading here.

Storyline and gameplay review:
When you first start the game, you will be forced to start your first mission. You play as Rico Rodriquez, a skilled marksman for a group known as The Agency. You start in a helicopter headed for the island of Panau. Your mission is to eventually take out an American on the island who has taught your character everything he knows. This American used to work for the agency, but has now turned against it. During transit, the helicopter receives a hit from a SAM device and the technician, holding memory cards with sensitive data, falls out of the helicopter. JC2 let's you take control immediately as you dive down to retrieve the memory card from the now dead technician in mid-air. Upon landing, you are tasked with finding the five other memory cards that were scattered around the base. JC2 progressively shows you how to walk, jump, and use your zip line. Surprisingly, it makes sure you get good practice using your zip line as a weapon before the game shows you how to pick up and use any other weapon. One thing I thought was pretty neat was if you can pick up two one-handed weapons, you can press the 2 button on your keyboard and hold them both at the same time. Once you have retrieved both memory cards, you are taken to the next mission. In this mission, you are tasked with saving another agent from The Agency who is cornered at the top of the Panau Casino. At this point, you begin to learn about the Panau police. From this point, the Panau police act as a constant antagonist. In free play mode, if you blow something up or attack someone, the Panau police will be swarming you within seconds. And when you join the criminal factions later in the game, they will be the target the majority of the time. So when you get to the Panau Casino, the game makes you use your zip line to scale the building after taking out the forces on the ground. After rescuing the agent, he takes you to a remote part of the forest where he becomes upset that his car is stuck in a ditch. At this point in the game, JC2 will show you a useful feature of your zip line where you can attach two object together. In this case, you are attaching his car to a nearby tractor. After pulling his car out of the ditch, the agent tells you to hop onto his car. After driving for about 10 seconds, the Panau police show up. The game then shows you the controls to jump around the car and how to jump from car to car. If at any point during the chase you hop onto another car, the game will also show you the controls to hijack the car. When you attempt to hijack a car, it gives you a random sequence of numbers to press. If the buttons are pressed quickly, you jump into the car and a few seconds later you are able to drive it. After you have shaken off the cops, the agent takes you to his house, where he informs you of the different criminal factions of the island of Panau. At this point, free roam is unlocked. You are then free to roam the island and do whatever you feel like. If you walk into a criminal HQ, you are sent into a mission to gain the respect and trust of the criminal faction leader. There are three criminal factions you can do missions for, the Ulars, the Reapers, and the Roaches. The first mission for each of these factions are the same, you have to help escort a technician into the base so he can hack a terminal to take over the location. For the Ulars, you take over a nuclear power plant. For the Reapers, you take over a jet propulsion testing facility. For the Roaches, you take over a harbor. I don't want to ruin the whole story for you, so go buy the game for yourself on Steam (steampowered.com). Why? Just Cause.
