Congratulations to Melroy for winning the electronics contest. His entry was a HDD led display. Here's his explanation to it followed by pictures and schematics:
"The goal is to achieve a HDD (multi-) Led Clock, cutting a slide in a splatter of the (old) HDD and put a light stripe behind the splatter. So when the splatter is rotating, and I keep track of the RPMs using magnetic sensor, I can control the led strip using the micro controller. This makes it possible to display figures and a sort of rainbow on the HDD, eventually I can create a analog clock using the HDD drive."
